The Art of Joel Penkman

I discovered Joel Penkman's work through various  blogs before - one of these days I will buy one of his pieces! He is a painter and graphic designer by trade, but specializes in food art. All those childhood staples (at least UK ones), comprise the bulk of his work, and a lot of the types of foods we seem to have an emotional connection with: birthday cakes, popsicles, chocolates.  All pieces are painstakingly hand painted. His larger pieces can be bought on his site, while smaller pieces and prints can be bought from his etsy store.

What intrigued me was being able to see some work beyond the printmaking work they are known for.  And I must say, I'm really liking their photo light boxes, and wink wink, nudge nudge, I hope they'll add some of them to t

Use That Stimulus To Get you Some Art!

Another great design suggestion from our giveaway, was from Carina, who had suggested the ever so wonderful Charmingwall. Based in NY this online store (and brick and mortar gallery) features many up and coming artists' prints from only $20! From the likes of the Oregon wunder, Evan B. Harris, to the rich illustration of Dan May, there's definitely something for everyone, if only just to check out Charmingwall's beautifully illustrated, animated logo.

Trish Grantham

I took a little trip over to Trish Grantham's site, and she's got some lovely pieces available here.

Trish is a self taught artist who works in both commercial illustration on unique projects (such as her Visa billboard), as well as her own art.

Working in a collage/mixed media realm, she puts together Chinese papers, and then draws/paints her characters on top. All pieces are painted on wood, and resin sets it all in place. They'd make great Christmas gifts......

Also, if her pieces might be out of your price range, she has postcards and notecards available through Paper Milk.

I think the work that Shauna and Stephen of Something's Hiding In Here create is always unique and attention grabbing - they literally have their own niche. Their new (and much blogged about) project for the Urban Outfitters window in Philly is an interactive project, in which people keep submit messages that they would like (or hope) t0 have displayed on the marquee - you can visit Your Message Here for more info. But what I fantasize about is that Stephen can use those great woodworking skills of his, and make some limited edition mini marquees for sale. How cool would that be? You could rotate your weekly menus, movie or poker nights, or just get something off your chest, the ideas are endless......I guess a girl can dream.

When I first saw this vintage chart, I never expected it to be a pro agricultural one. But yeah for farmers, I guess?
UK based Present & Correct is introducing lots of nifty vintage items like this on their new site, that color junkies would drool over displaying in their home.
I love the color and illustration. It almost seems like an item the folks at Three Potato Four would probably would have loved to have in their home office. Come to think of it, P&C does seem like TP4's long lost Brit cousin........
